Have you started getting the end of season feeling already? This beautiful time of the year is here again. The new years, finals and the break. Well, we have finally put the new years celebrations behind with its crazy, drunkenness and hangover. Next stop for us is to hit the books for the finals and then pack our bags to take off. What I have realized this season was the unbearable lightness of getting used to a brand new life. Getting used to a particular friend group, boyfriend, university, a home. Getting used to living in Istanbul again after a long pause...
Getting used to a routine has always been a nightmare to me. Now, I am not saying that I got used to anything but what I have started to feel comfortable instead of claustrophobic. Friends started to become more interesting instead of interestingly dull. I started feeling like I could actually belong. Does that mean that I have to change the lifestyle I have led up until now? No, not yet.
The end of semester, the end of fall...Is this also the end of constant falling down? By falling down I mean the rush in our stomaches while gravity does its work. Are we going to step on a solid ground by the time we get back for the next chapter of the challenge called 'adaptation'? The real question here though is 'Do we want stability?' Are we looking for a place that we could easily belong or are we running away from getting used to things and and taking things for granted? Here is the billion dollar question. Is life the art of getting used to what we do not expect, is it really the journey and not the destination? And what about the 'peaceful easy feeling?'
A very wise man, Bon Scott-the vocalist from AC/DC- once said 'Living easy, living free. Season ticket on a one-way ride, asking nothing, leave me be. Taking everything in my stride. Don't need reason, don't need rhyme, ain't nothing I would rather do...' Can this song be your life motto? Well, good luck to all of us who would say 'Absolutely!'without a second thought since this song is called 'Highway to Hell'.
It is been said that we do not recognize the significant moments of our lives while they are happening. We grow complacent with ideas, or things or people and we take them for granted and it is usually not until that thing is about to be taken away from us that we have realized how wrong we have been that we realized how much we need it, how much we love it. I do love the freedom to take off, no strings attached.
Getting used to things, although seems ideal, comfortable and nice may not be the right path for all of us. What are you going to do when it comes down to choosing between comfort, piece and passion and exaltation? This season has been reconstructing what I have built so far. And I owe it to a few people and more importantly to the beautiful, extraordinary crazy town we live in. So, I do not know the answer to the billion dollar question just yet. But I hope to find it during the next chapter of this season. I hope it brings good luck and good decisions to all of us.
